Call for Abstracts for the 2025 Symposium on Transforming Culture

2025 Theme: “Marriage at the Peripheries”

Over the course of many years in western civilization, the Christian understanding of marriage has been pushed to the “peripheries.” Marriage has been re-defined and, ultimately, de-defined. Tragically, the loss of the Christian perspective on marriage has and continues to cause great harm. Often those most impacted are those at the “peripheries.” With this year’s theme we invite scholars and field professionals from any field or discipline to submit proposals for 20-minute colloquium session presentations that explore the complex reality of marriage and family in the world today. We seek to put together an interdisciplinary lineup of presenters who can speak to the gift of the Catholic Church’s teachings on marriage and propose solutions to the challenges facing married couples and families in the contemporary environment. We welcome proposals for individual presentations or 3-person panel presentations that address the following areas:

  • Preparation, Formation, & Healing
  • Biblical & Systematic Theology
  • Sociology of Marriage and Family
  • Canon Law, Morality & Pastoral Practice
  • Political and Economic Policy
  • Catholic Social Thought
  • Family & the New Evangelization
  • Theology of Home
  • Children, Parenting, & Education
  • Historical & Literary Models of Marriage

Proposals should be sent in the form of a 150 word abstract. Submissions should be turned in online by December 1, 2024. Notification of acceptance will be given by December 15, 2024. Presentations will be 20 minutes in length with 2-3 presenters per session.
