A native of the southernmost beautiful island of Trinidad in the Caribbean Archipelago located just northeast of Venezuela, earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, Trinidad, a Graduate Diploma in the Methodologies of Teaching Spanish as a Second Language from the Universidad Metrpolitana de las Ciencias de la Educaciόn, Santiago Chile and a Master of Arts in Spanish with a concentration in Pedagogy: Language Teaching and Language Learning at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville Arkansas. He has studied fourteen languages of which he is very proficient in seven. His love for languages and travel to Latin American and other countries in the world, has gained him a wealth of experience, where he worked as the Coordinator (Principal )/ Spanish Instructor and ESL(English as a Second Language Coordinator) at the Instituto Venezolano para la Cultura y Cooperaciόn “Andrés Bello” at the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Additionally for his contribution to doing interpreting, translating and teaching of Spanish for the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean Court of Justice has gained him recognition from the Government of Trinidad and Tobago as a Certified Public Translator and Interpreter for all Diplomatic and International Entities. He has also served as a Spanish Examiner /Assistant Examiner for the Caribbean Examinations Council, with its Headquarters in the island of Barbados.
Obed’s research interests include 20th and 21st Century US Latino/Latin American culture and identity, Second Language Acquisition, and Interpreter and Translating training.).
Obed is also a member of the American Council on the Teachinng of Foreign Languages (ACTFL)
Obed Johnson is an Instructor of Spanish in the Department of World Languages and Cultures here at Benedictine College.
