Curriculum Vitae

Dermot Trainor is an Assistant Professor of History at Benedictine College. 

Professor Trainor teaches the history of the United States of America. His current range of courses taught at Benedictine include both halves of the U.S. History survey, along with upper division courses looking at the Early American Republic, the Antebellum & Civil War eras, Reconstruction & the Gilded Age, the Inter-War Period, and U.S. History since 1945. Professor Trainor has also taught specialist courses on U.S. Diplomatic History, U.S. Military History, and the history of both Native America and Latin America. 

His research focuses on both the history of the Reconstruction era and twentieth century U. S. foreign policy. He has a forthcoming article, ‘The Israeli Crisis of 1969: Henry Kissinger and Nuclear Non-Proliferation’ set to be published by the journal of Diplomacy & Statecraft

Born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Trainor has an undergraduate degree in history from Durham University, and an MPhil and PhD in American History from the University of Cambridge. Outside of work, Trainor most enjoys pursuing his passion for classical piano, and has recently given performances of concertos by Rachmaninoff, Bach & Beethoven.
